July 2008

No articles were eligible as of the opening of voting on June 23rd. On June 28th, Veelox was promoted to A-class; therefore, it automatically became the July featured article.

June 2008

This month, the only eligible article is Mr. Pop. Voting is closed.

Mr. Pop

  • I vote for Mr. Pop because it is the only option. AlohaSoy 19:15, 26 May 2008 (IDT)

Mr. Pop is the June featured article.

May 2008

This month, the eligible articles are Gloid and Mr. Pop. As there was a 1-1 tie at the end of April 29th, a second round occured: all eligible voters could use a second vote until the end of April 30th. Voting is now closed.

Gloid

  • Here's my vote, based on five criteria: Length and thoroughness, Clarity, Stability, Organization, and Media.
    • Length and thoroughness: Gloid is slightly longer than Mr. Pop, which is impressive, as it is much less important of a topic. Win for Gloid.
    • Clarity: The prose of Mr. Pop, as Alohasoy mentioned, is easier to follow and less bland. Win for Mr. Pop.
    • Stability: The imformation of Gloid is well distributed; if new information was introduced, it could be easily added. Mr. Pop is organized on a timeline format, which could be a serious mess if new information was added. Win for Gloid.
    • Organization: Both articles were well organized; without overlapping the stability criteria, this is a tie.
    • Media: Gloid brings in an outside reference on colors, but pictures are noticably absent. On the other hand, Mr. Pop says nothing as to the etymology of the name- where could it have come from? Tie.
    • Overall: I vote Gloid. User:Ruler of Third Earth
  • I give my second vote to Gloid. Ruler of Third Earth (do not try to contact, no longer an active user)02:28, 1 May 2008 (IDT)
  • I am going to temporarily give my second vote to Gloid so if no one else votes there won't be a tie; however, if this extra vote causes a tie, I will undo it by the end of the second-round voting period. AlohaSoy 06:04, 30 April 2008 (IDT)

Mr. Pop

  • Some of this will be quoted from last month. Length: Again, this should not be an official factor, but it can give an overall picture. Gloid is the 24th-longest article and Mr. Pop is 26th. Effective Tie | Thoroughness: Gloid is very thorough and discusses its entire topic, bringing in quotes and even an outside reference on colors. Mr. Pop is thorough nearly everywhere, and has good quote usage, but still needs a little expansion in the Destruction section. Win for Gloid | Balance: Gloid focuses mostly on a description and not as much on its role in the series, but the imbalance is understandable as it is not a major topic. Mr. Pop is very evenly balanced between the involved sections. Win for Mr. Pop. | Organization: Gloid has strong labels, but not as much content under each label; this isn't really pleasing to the eye and gives the impression of lack of content. Mr. Pop has clear labels and a good label-to-prose ratio. Win for Mr. Pop | Clarity: Gloid has noticeably extensive use of passive voice, which can make the prose a little bland or hard-to-follow. Mr. Pop is very clear. Win for Mr. Pop. | Interarticle function: Gloid works well in its links to other articles, from Cloral to Siry Remudi, but it is not really linked to in any other articles. Mr. Pop has good interarticle function, I could find no fault with it. Win for Mr. Pop | Overall: Overall, I found that Gloid was more thorough, but Mr. Pop was clearer, better organized and most interlinked. Therefore, my vote is for Mr. Pop. Gloid is the May featured article.

April 2008

The eligible articles for this month are Denduron, Gloid and Mr. Pop. Voting is closed.

Denduron

  • I vote for Denduron, for a few reasons. I find it very well written, very long, older than the others, and more informative. Fralf 03:44, 24 March 2008 (IST)
    • Part of your vote has been struck because you displayed personal bias based on age. Otherwise, you're not thinking proportionally. If you think Denduron is better written, provide examples. If you think Denduron is more informative, provide examples of something missing from the other articles. If you think Denduron is longer, that shouldn't could because Gloid and Mr. Pop are much less significant to the series. You need to think proportionally for judging articles. 72.148.42.192 02:30, 29 March 2008 (IDT)
  • I also vote for Denduron, for several reasons. I think that it is not only better written and more informative, but also a broader subject that in general offers more information than Gloid or Mr. Pop. ~ Bella Swan 04:16, 24 March 2008 (IST)
    • Part of your vote has been struck because subject matter does not count for article class. 72.148.42.192 02:30, 29 March 2008 (IDT)
  • I vote for Denduron. This article is much more informative and thorough than the others. Also, it is very factual. Mr. Pop is informative too, but there are parts of it that are not entirely factual, and make spectulations about how if 'point a' had been different, then 'point b' would also be altered. That doesn't seem entirely encyclopedia-like to me, so my vote will go to Denduron. D.E 03:11, 29 March 2008 (IDT)

Gloid

  • The thing about featured article voting is that you have to actually read the quality scale. It states that an A-class "may miss a few relevant points", which Denduron does. However, that problem is expected to be fixed upon promotion to FA-class. Gloid has every possible point listed, plus a cool outside reference. Denduron and Mr. Pop are missing a few things- the dog whistle and the underground malls. Therefore, gloid is the best choice. Ruler of Third Earth 19:24, 30 March 2008 (IDT)

Mr. Pop

  • I'm going to break down my vote like I did last month. Length: Again, this should not be an official factor, but it can give an overall picture. Denduron is the seventh-longest article, while Mr. Pop and Gloid are 23rd and 24th respectively; this is probably largely attributable to the fact that Denduron is a topic more widely covered. | Thoroughness: I mentioned last month that Denduron's article lacked significant description of the items brought there during MoD; sadly, there have been no edits to this article since my edit on January 26th. Although that could imply the article needs little improvement, it could also mean stagnation of editing. Gloid is very thorough and discusses its entire topic, bringing in quotes and even an outside reference on colors. Mr. Pop is thorough nearly everywhere, and has good quote usage, but still needs a little expansion in the Destruction section. Overall, a Win for Gloid. | Balance: Denduron has a good balance of a variety of topics. Gloid focuses mostly on a description and not as much on its role in the series, but the imbalance is understandable as it is not a major topic. Mr. Pop is very evenly balanced between the involved sections. Win for Denduron and Mr. Pop. | Organization: Last month I mentioned that Denduron's labels were a little off (see my vote there for more info). Gloid has strong labels, but not as much content under each label; this isn't really pleasing to the eye and gives the impression of lack of content. Mr. Pop has clear labels and a good label-to-prose ratio. Win for Mr. Pop. | Clarity: Denduron is very clear. By contrast, Gloid has noticeably extensive use of passive voice, which can make the prose a little bland or hard-to-follow. Mr. Pop is very clear, but seems to lack excitement - perhaps it is because it is not as big a topic as Denduron. Win for Denduron. | Interarticle function: As I mentioned last month, Denduron is really the only article related to that territory which has made it above stub level. Gloid works well in its links to other articles, from Cloral to Siry Remudi, but it is not really linked to in any other articles. Mr. Pop has good interarticle function, I could find no fault with it. Win for Mr. Pop. | Overall: Overall, I found that Gloid was the most thorough, Mr. Pop the best organized and most interlinked, and Denduron the most clear. Mr. Pop and Denduron tied on balance. Therefore, my vote is now for Mr. Pop. (Denduron was a close second, and I'd be very pleased if it won too. Oh, and thanks Ruler for the double-counting catch.) Alohasoy 04:37, 24 March 2008 (IST)

Denduron is the April featured article.

March 2008

The eligible articles for this month are Denduron and Quillan, as they were the only two A-class articles on February 22. Voting is closed.

Denduron

To vote here, please put your username and a brief explanation of why you voted the way you did.

  • I vote for Denduron because it is longer, more informative, and better expanded that the Quillan article. Whether Quillan was the first article or not, it still isn't ready for featured status. There are still some sections that need addition (time? tribbun? VL, I believe I asked you to put those in for me, and you ignored me.), whereas Denduron is fully expanded. I see no reason to doubt Denduron's quality, but Quillan still needs some fine-tuning. -- Cameron
  • I vote Denduron because it is not only long and informative, but tells the newer readers to the story what the territory is like. It would be better to put the first territory traveled to as the featured article than the latest territory traveled too... (although it is VL's and my favorite territory) Mmm122 18:11, 27 February 2008 (IST)
  • Denduron all the way! The article is way longer and more informative than Quillan. User:71.2.84.226 23:51, 1 March 2008 (IST)

Quillan

To vote here, please put your username and a brief explanation of why you voted the way you did.

  • I vote for Quillan for symbolic reason. Not only is it an impeccable article, it was also one of the first on HallaWiki, if not the first, and I believe that makes it worthy of Featured Article status. VL 06:28, 23 February 2008 (IST)
  • Yeah, I have the same reasoning as VL Fralf 20:26, 23 February 2008 (IST)
Yeah, it was the first, an that's all well and good, but how exactly does that make it superior to Denduron? Ruler of Third Earth 22:04, 23 February 2008 (IST)
If I want to do something, I don't need to tell you a play-by-play of exactly why. You just answered your own question - It is superior to Denduron because it is the first article, and is also very good. I'm not saying Denduron's a poor article, I'm saying I personally believe Quillan is not only better written, but was also here first. Do you need to question everything I do? Because that's what it seems like. VL 19:03, 24 February 2008 (IST)
Um...this is not a flamewar, it's a discussion. Please be more polite. Besides, questioning anyone, especially administrators, is encouraged via our policies. Just read them over again, you'll get it. Ruler of Third Earth 20:47, 24 February 2008 (IST)
Be that as it may, it doesn't matter. I'll vote for the article I think is better, and if you have a problem with that, too bad. I'm not changing my vote. VL 23:30, 24 February 2008 (IST)
  • A breakdown of my vote. Length: Although it should not be counted as a definitive criterion, length often gives a general view of how useful an article is. In this case, Denduron is about 7% longer than Quillan. Win for Denduron | Thoroughness: In general, I found that the Denduron article was much more thorough on topics like Quigs and overall significance in the series; however, Quillan had more detail on territory mixing there. On the subject of territory mixing, I noticed that a number of items brought to Denduron were completely left out of the article, including ones like the dog whistle which had major plot significance. Win for Quillan | Balance: In Denduron, the longest section by far is Linguistics, although other sections are dealt with thoroughly. By contrast, Quillan lacks any Linguistics section at all, although this is partly attributable to the fact that there is much less extant Quillan text to go off of. And the Quillan article is obviously centered around the Economics section, with other information seemingly lacking. Win for Denduron | Organization: I noticed that in the Denduron article, the labels were not always completely appropriate. The section labeled "politics" actually had more sociological information than political. Win for Quillan | Clarity: Both articles are very clearly written, and in reading I was never confused. Tie | Interarticle function: It is clear that Denduron is very obviously the center of its topic, with no other good articles related to it. By contrast, four B-class articles are on Quillan-related topics. Win for Quillan | Overall: This led to my overall vote for Quillan as the March featured article. (Note that I will most definitely support Denduron for featured article next month.) Alohasoy 00:49, 2 March 2008 (IST)
